Full-length trailer for The Assassination of Gianni Versace

The eagerly anticipated full-length trailer for The Assassination of Gianni Versace has just been released.

The American Crime Story drama from FX is the follow-up to the first acclaimed season, which looked back on the trial of OJ Simpson.

The second season is a bio-drama looking back on the murder of fashion designer Gianni Versace. It also follows the subsequent manhunt for his killer, Andrew Cunanan (played by Glee star Darren Criss).

Subsequent police investigations discovered that Cunanan had murdered four other men before turning a gun on the famed Italian designer on the steps of his Miami mansion. Cunanan died by suicide eight days after killing Versace.

Ryan Murphy

The TV drama is based on an exhaustive book by Maureen Orth. It also co-stars singer Ricky Martin as Versace’s partner, Antonio D’Amico. Penelope Cruz plays Versace’s sister, Donatella.

Like the first season, American Crime Story is co-produced by Ryan Murphy – one of the most powerful gay men in TV. He co-created the shows Nip/Tuck, Glee and American Horror Story. The screenplay is by another gay man: British writer Tom Rob Smith (Child 44).

The second season comes to FX on 17 January 2018.
